2010 Weekend of Remembrance Volunteer Opportunities

Thank you for your interest in volunteering at the 2010 Weekend of Remembrance!

The 2010l Weekend of Remembrance is an annual event bringing together Gold Star families – those who have lost a loved one in military service to our country – to pay tribute to America’s fallen Heroes and provide an opportunity for these families to support each other, share their stories, and celebrate their loved ones through a series of fantastic events.  The 2009 weekend was the largest-ever gathering of the families of our nation’s fallen Heroes.

This year’s Weekend of Remembrance will include the following events:

  • National Gold Star Family Dinner and Kids’ Reception – Friday, July 23 – Marriott Wardman Park Hotel
  • Wreath-laying at Tomb of the Unknown – Saturday, July 24 – Arlington National Cemetery
  • American Heroes Festival – Saturday, July 24 – Six Flags America

Volunteers are needed from 1:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. Friday and from 7:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m. Saturday

Volunteers will have the opportunity to work in several areas including:

  • assisting families with registration and check-in
  • greeting families and providing assistance with directions at airports and key Metro stations
  • assisting with food vending at the Festival
  • serving as security at the Festival
  • serving as press escorts
  • assisting with children’s activities

We also need volunteers who are willing to serve in general areas, such as assisting with set-up and tear down.

All volunteers will be provided with refreshments and will receive an event T-shirt!  Transportation to Six Flags event from Washington, DC will be provided.
